Wallace: Better roads way out west

Main Roads Minister Craig Wallace said the roads budget would deliver better roads and generate jobs in western Queensland.

Minister Wallace said the budget offered jobs and job security to the 12,000 men and woman hard at work building and maintaining regional Queensland’s road network.

“The saying ‘Go west young man’ fits in well with our new roads budget. It’s more than three times bigger than the last one delivered by the Tories,” he said.

“Let’s head out west where we are rolling out almost half a billion dollars on road projects – let’s hit the highway.”

·$10 million to widen 23 kms of the Gregory Developmental Road;

·$30 million to seal sections of the Roma to Taroom Road – an all-weather link to support the booming Surat Basin, the oil and gas industry and the livestock industry;

·More than $15 million on the Diamantina Developmental Road between Charleville and Quilpie;

·$7 million to complete a $10 million project to widen and seal part of the Gregory Developmental Road between Charters Towers and The Lynd;

·$6 million to widen and strengthen the Capricorn Highway between Duaringa and Emerald;

·$10 million to kick off a $17 million project to widen parts of the Eidsvold Theodore Road;

·More than $8 million to widen a seal a section of the New England Highway south of Crows Nest

“Not only are we building better roads, we’re delivering jobs for Queenslanders, kick- starting local economies, paving the roads and paving the way for a better, brighter future for the people who live and work out west,” he said.
