Customers

Customers are vital to the success and development of the Surat Basin Rail.

The Surat Basin Rail Joint Venture has commenced the customer commitment process, which called for Expressions of Interest (EOI) by January 2010 from existing and potential coal producers interested in transporting coal between Wandoan and Banana.

The customer commitment process aims to identify capacity requirements and gain commitment from foundation customers – those who sign a Capacity Commitment Deed and Take or Pay Access Agreement – prior to the Joint Venture making the final investment decision to allow construction to begin.

Coal chain cooperation is integral to Surat Basin Rail because the timing and execution of the Wiggins Island Coal Export Terminal port development, related infrastructure and mining projects are vital to the successful operation of this new railway.

Coal supply chains involve a number of stakeholders and interfaces from the mine to the buyer’s destination. Connection works with mines and related infrastructure have been clearly defined and scheduled to minimise delays to the Surat Basin Rail project.
